He also looks at the other popular images of the time -- child labour, for example. No doubt children were exploited in the mills, but how common was it? And how bad was it by the standards of the time?

We go on to look at the revolution of ideas: how changes in society brought on changes in thinking, including the rise of liberalism and, on behalf of the working classes, socialism and communism.

And what about the long term legacy? Did the revolution ever end? What sort of world has it created? Is it time to questions endless production and consumption?
