The Essence of Faith - Deepavali

Singapore’s Hindu population celebrates Deepavali (also known as Divali) each year in memory of their legendary emancipation from darkness. This programme joins the people celebrating Deepavali today and the traditions that underpin it.

Singapore is a global crossroads where many of the world’s major religions are observed side-by-side by different groups. Each programme in the Essence of faith series examines the significance and symbolism of one of the festivals within the faith, alongside the traditions and fundamental beliefs of the religion.
