Electronics: Healthcare Applications

This is a fascinating film showing students how and where electronics is having an impact on healthcare in today’s society. It incorporates two case studies, the first of which centres on defibrillators and shows us in an understandable manner the way in which electronics is used to monitor and control the functions of the human heart with the aid of an implanted defibrillator. The second study considers the benefits created by an MRI scanner in diagnosing internal problems of the body. The science behind the scanning machine is explained and the film shows how the electronics is based upon a simple resonating circuit.
